🍓 Refreshing Healthy Strawberry Watermelon Smoothie Served in an Ice Cold Cup!
There are many fruits that go well with watermelon. I chose to use strawberry in this summer smoothie recipe, because the two fruits pair well together.
🥣 Few Ingredients You Need for a Creamy Strawberry Watermelon Smoothie Recipe
- Watermelon - Of course, you need watermelon for a watermelon smoothie. It's better have cubed watermelon in your freezer, because they blend nicely. Plus, you get that cold, refreshing taste that is a must for a summer fruit smoothie.
- Strawberries - I prefer strawberries to complement well with the watermelon flavor in this smoothie recipe. They are a more neutral tasting berry, while still adding that sweet berry flavor.
- Milk of Choice - I like unsweetened almond milk the best.
- Yogurt of Choice - I used plain almond milk yogurt, but Greek yogurt works well in this recipe too.
- Lime Juice - Don't leave this ingredient out. The lime juice balances the sweetness of the other flavors.
- Ginger Root - The fresh ginger root gives this smoothie its unique flavor.
- Mint: A few fresh mint leaves give brightness and minty flavor undertones to the recipe.
See the recipe card for quantities.
🍉 What Fruit Goes Well with Watermelon?
Some of these include strawberries, bananas, and tropical fruits such as mango and pineapple. Adding frozen fruit to the smoothie makes it thicker.
The strawberry added to the smoothie is a perfect fit, because the sweet juicy flavor won't overpower the star ingredient flavor.

❓ Can Watermelon be Frozen for Smoothies?
Yes, you can freeze watermelon for smoothies! In fact, frozen watermelon is a great base for smoothies because it provides a nice texture and sweetness.
However, you will want to use fresh watermelon for the best results. Follow my instructions below on how to freeze your watermelon for later use.
❄️ How to Freeze Fresh Watermelon for Smoothies?
I love to keep frozen fruit on hand to easily add to my smoothie recipes. Freezing watermelon is a perfect way to store and use the fruit for later.
The first step is to slice the watermelon in half. Then cut into thinner slices. Take the thinner slices and cut into small cubes. It's best to lay them flat on a lined baking sheet, and then freeze the cubes.
Next, after the cubes are frozen, transfer into an airtight container or reusable baggies. The watermelon fruit will last about 2 months in the freezer, without that freezer burn flavor.
🧑🍳 How to Make a Healthy Strawberry Watermelon Smoothie
Watermelon smoothies are a delicious and refreshing summer drink. The key to making a great watermelon smoothie is to freeze the watermelon cubes first. This will give your smoothie a thicker, creamy texture that you will enjoy.
This smoothie recipe is made with only a few simple ingredients. The watermelon provides sweetness and flavor, while the yogurt gives the drink a creamy texture.
You can use any type of yogurt you like, but I recommend using unsweetened almond or coconut milk yogurt, because it adds protein and calcium without adding sugar or fat.
To make this healthy strawberry watermelon smoothie recipe more nutritionally balanced, simply add protein rich yogurt and almond milk. This will give your watermelon smoothie a thick and creamy consistency.
