How beautiful is this beet and berry smoothie? I love the vibrant colors of this heart healthy strawberry beet smoothie recipe, and its sweet delicious flavor. But don't just think this is only pretty to look at, because this delicious smoothie recipe is also full of ingredients great for heart health. Some beet smoothie benefits, like for anemia, are discussed below.

"Heart Beet Love" smoothie made with beets and strawberries in a bowl on a table decorated with beets.

That is why I love to make this recipe for Valentine's Day. Valentine's Day is all about the beating heart and love. So, I made a "heart beet" smoothie that will not only be good for your body, but also reddish pink for the day of love celebration. Beets are also a heart healthy vegetable that is perfect to help protect against heart disease.

A beet smoothie is full of nutrients to help you feel your best throughout the day. This healthy Valentine's Day inspired smoothie is also a good source of fiber, vitamins, and minerals. Beets are delicious and have an earthy flavor. The addition of the strawberries and ginger balances out that earthy taste if you're not typically a fan of the flavor of beets. This healthy drink recipe is a great way to get your daily dose of essential vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.

Strawberry Beet Smoothie: How To Make A Delicious Red Beet Berry Smoothie!

It's easy to make and perfect for a quick breakfast or snack, but also suitable for any time of the day. This smoothie is full of great ingredients and tastes delicious. The ingredients include:

    • Beets
    • Strawberries
    • Frozen squash or zucchini
    • Ginger Root
    • Almond milk
    • Protein powder
    Vibrant red berry drink.

How to Add More Protein to This Beet Smoothie?

Protein is important for maintaining muscle and joint health. That is why it is key to ensure you get enough protein with every meal. This beet smoothie recipe requires the addition of vanilla flavored protein powder, but you can easily swap it out for a ¼ of a cup of yogurt or even tofu.

Yogurt will also add protein and probiotics. Tofu is a great source of protein, and it is an easily adaptable ingredient that can be used in many recipes because of the bland flavor profile. This soybean product takes on the flavor profile, whatever other ingredients or spices are in the recipe.

What Fruit Pairs Well With Beets?

Strawberry is a delicious fruit that pairs well with beets. This is one of the reasons why I chose to add it to this beet smoothie. Beets are pretty mild in flavor, so it can pair well with almost any fruit to bring out the sweetness too. I also added ginger, because it will add another element of flavor to take this smoothie to another level. Plus, ginger has so many health benefits.

    Strawberry Beet Smoothie Recipe Notes

    • Be careful to avoid beet juice staining hands and clothes.
    • Add in a bit of fresh ginger and lemon or lime juice to help cut down on the earthy flavor of the beet.
    • Add cinnamon to the recipe to change the flavor if you're not a fan of ginger.
    • If you use fresh squash or zucchini instead of frozen, be sure to add a handful of ice to the berry beet smoothie.

Can I Use Cooked Beets Instead of Raw in This Smoothie Recipe?

If you don't have raw beets, it's fine to use cooked instead. Be sure the cooked beets don't have any savory seasonings added to them. It is fine to use leftover sweet flavored ones that perhaps you added honey or maple syrup to. It's best to add plain flavored ones instead.

Most grocery stores now sell packaged cooked beets that you can also use instead of preparing them yourself. However, be aware that sometimes there are additional flavors and additives in those packaged beets.

Health Benefits of Beets in Smoothies

Beet smoothie is high in valuable vitamins and minerals. It's a healthy start to any day! Beet contains many vitamins and minerals, including calcium, potassium, magnesium, and vitamin C.

Health benefits of beets by blending them into the smoothie include lowering blood pressure, fighting inflammation, improving digestive health, and cancer-fighting antioxidant properties.

They are fairly low in caloric intake, but also nutrient-dense, making them a perfect option for those mindful of watching their weight. Beet intake is also linked to a reduced risk of chronic diseases like heart disease and cancer. This vegetable is considered heart healthy and great if you are following the Dash Diet eating plan.

Beets are also high in fiber, which can help improve blood sugar levels throughout the day. The rich phytochemical content can have a positive impact on insulin and glucose levels within the body (1).

Beet juice helps with blood flow. If you eat beets an hour before a workout, it will help dilate your blood vessels, which in turn increases the amount of oxygen delivered to your muscle.

Why You Should Make a Berry Beet Smoothie?

Beet smoothies are fabulous for helping with those suffering from anemia, because of its high iron content. They are also a great source of betaine, which is used by the body to convert homocysteine into methionine and cystathionine. High levels of homocysteine can cause heart disease, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases.

In addition, they are also a good source of folate, which is an important nutrient for pregnant women to help prevent birth defects.
