What is Moon Milk Latte Made From?
So, what is moon milk exactly? To put it in simple forms, moon milk starts with simply a base of warmed-up milk. Then adds various ingredients for added health benefits, and of course to turn the milk blue, perhaps by adding in some blueberries like I did. There are many different recipes out there, but you want to use your preferred form of milk (including dairy-free options), with spices and oils. Some adaptogen filled milk recipes use vanilla and essential oils, while others use spices like nutmeg and cinnamon. It depends on your tastes and preferences.
It often includes herbs, to boost the health benefits of this adaptogenic milk drink. Adaptogens are a popular addition, which can help reduce stress and boost your immune system. If you haven't tried adding more adaptogens into your life, you should consider adding more adaptogenic herbs, because there are so many amazing health benefits. If you haven't read my article, I discuss a list of antioxidants and adaptogens benefits.

How Do You Make Moon Milk Latte Blue?
And the biggest question of all – how is moon milk BLUE? There are a few ways people add the blue color to an adaptogenic latte, but one of the most popular ways is with butterfly pea powders.
First of all, not all moon milk is blue, but many people do like this color. Some are more of a pink or purple shade, depending on the ingredients you use. But with the butterfly pea flowers, you can add the powder to your milk and give it a fun shade.
My recipe below is not only blue from the butterfly pea flower, but also the addition of the blueberries. You can also create different versions of my recipe below by replacing the blueberries with another fruit or simply omitting them. Without the blueberries, it's a simple version of ashwagandha moon milk. Try experimenting, and you can come up with your own special adaptogen milk recipe.

Blueberry Ashwagandha Moon Milk Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 cup Dairy-Free Milk (I recommend almond or coconut milk beverage)
- 2 tablespoons Blueberries (fresh or frozen)
- ½ teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon Ground Cardamon
- 1 tablespoon Maple Syrup
- 1 teaspoon Ashwagandha Powder
- ½ tablespoon Blue Butterfly Pea Flower Powder
- ½ teaspoon Coconut Oil
Instructions
- Heat the milk over low heat in a small pot. Remove from heat and blend the rest of the ingredients in a blender.
- Optional: Top with dried butterfly pea powder, dried lavender, or dried rose petals to garnish.
Recipe Tips:
- You can also serve this iced. Simply pour over ice and enjoy. If you don't have ashwagandha powder, you can buy some here on Amazon, or simply omit it. You won't get the same calming effect that ashwagandha offers, but it still tastes great. If you prefer a sugar-free version, simply replace the maple syrup with your favorite sugar-free sweetener. You can strain the mixture, if you prefer a silky smooth texture, or if your blender is not a high-powered one, to blend up the blueberries to a smooth texture.
