🥣 Ingredients For a Healthy Papaya Smoothie Recipe
This summer tropical smoothie is a tasty way to support healthy skin and help give your skin a natural, radiant glow.
This healthy papaya smoothie is not only refreshing, but also packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.
- Papaya - Papaya has a sweet, tropical flavor that pairs well with many other fruits and ingredients.
- Spinach - I like to add this vegetable for extra iron, folate, magnesium, and vitamin K.
- Avocado - Creamy addition that adds healthy fats to this papaya smoothie recipe.
- Mint Leaves - A vibrant burst of fresh flavor with vitamin C for extra immune system support. Mint also has antimicrobial properties, which help soothe irritated skin, reduce acne, and provide a cooling effect to the body.
- Milk of Choice - I like unsweetened almond milk the best.
- Vanilla Protein Powder - I highly recommend my E*Y*N plant-based vanilla protein powder. The vanilla adds to the depth of flavor in the recipe.
See the recipe card for quantities.
👩🍳 Directions
To make this smoothie, you will need a portion of fresh papaya, spinach, avocado, milk, and mint leaves.
Next, you'll add a scoop of your favorite plant-based protein powder to increase the protein grams in this recipe.
Add the ingredients to a blender. Blend until smooth. Serve as is or add your favorite toppings. I like fresh mint leaves and a sprinkle of unsweetened coconut flakes.
I don't find this smoothie needs any additional sweeteners, but if you want to sweeten the smoothie, add a drizzle of honey or a date. Alternatively, if you prefer a lower sugar option, you can use a natural sweetener like stevia or skip sweeteners altogether.
It can be enjoyed as a quick and healthy breakfast, a post-workout snack, or even as a refreshing pick-me-up during hot summer days.
❓ Why Make a Smoothie With Papaya?
Papaya adds a lot of great qualities to a smoothie! Here are a few reasons you might want to use it.
- Flavor: Papaya has a sweet, tropical flavor that pairs well with many other fruits and ingredients.
- Texture: It has a smooth, creamy texture when blended, which can make your smoothie thick and satisfying.
- Nutrients: Papaya is rich in vitamins A and C, folate, and fiber. It's also a good source of antioxidants and enzymes like papain, which can aid digestion.
- Low-Calorie: It’s relatively low in calories compared to some other fruits, which can be a plus if you're watching your calorie intake.
- Digestive Health: The enzyme papain in papaya can help with digestion, making it a great addition if you have digestive issues or just want to keep your digestive system running smoothly.
So, incorporating papaya into your smoothie not only boosts the flavor and texture but also adds a nutritious punch!
High in Nutrients
Papaya health, beauty, and nutrition benefits for skin are numerous, making it a popular ingredient in many skincare products. Rich in vitamins A, C, and E, papaya helps nourish and rejuvenate the skin, promoting a youthful glow. Its antioxidant properties help combat free radicals, which can cause premature aging and fine lines.
Hydrate from the Inside Out With Papaya
Additionally, the hydration provided by papaya ensures the skin remains soft, supple, and well-moisturized. Whether consumed as part of a balanced diet or applied topically, papaya can significantly enhance skin health and beauty.
Papaya Eases Constipation
Constipation can be an uncomfortable and sometimes painful condition, but luckily this papaya smoothie recipe can serve as a natural remedy due to its high fiber content and digestive enzymes.
High Fiber Content: Papaya is a good source of dietary fiber, which helps regulate bowel movements and prevent constipation by adding bulk to the stool.
Digestive Enzymes: The papain enzyme in papaya helps digestion and break down proteins, making it easier for the digestive system to process food and keep things moving.
Additionally, its high water content helps keep the digestive system hydrated, making stool passage easier. Including papaya in your daily diet not only promotes gut health, but also provides essential vitamins and antioxidants, contributing to overall wellness.

Weight Loss Support and Papaya
Papaya for weight loss is an excellent choice due to its rich nutrient profile. This tropical fruit is low in calories and fiber, which helps digestion and helps you feel fuller for longer periods. This added weight loss support benefit is another great reason I added papaya to my smoothie recipe.
Low in Calories: Papaya is low in calories but high in nutrients, making it a great choice for a filling yet calorie-conscious snack.
High Water Content: With a high water content, papaya helps keep you hydrated and promotes a feeling of fullness, which can reduce overall calorie intake. Also, its natural sweetness can curb cravings for unhealthy snacks.
Metabolism Boost: The enzymes and nutrients in papaya can help boost metabolism and aid in efficient digestion, supporting healthy weight management.
The antioxidants present in papaya also contribute to overall well-being by combating free radicals and reducing inflammation. Including a papaya smoothie in your diet can be a delicious and effective way to support your weight loss journey.
Skin-Loving Health Benefits
Rich in Vitamins: Papaya is packed with vitamins A, C, and E. Vitamin C is crucial for collagen production, which helps keep skin firm and youthful. Vitamin A supports skin cell regeneration, while Vitamin E provides antioxidant protection.
Antioxidants: The antioxidants in papaya, including beta-carotene and lycopene, help protect the skin from damage caused by UV rays and environmental pollutants, which can reduce signs of aging and maintain a healthy glow.
Papain Enzyme: This enzyme helps gently exfoliate the skin, removing dead skin cells and promoting a smoother complexion.

💙 Substitutions
Here are a few modifications if you have an aversion, food allergy, or simply don't have an ingredient on hand.
- Spinach - Substitute with romaine lettuce, cucumber, or kale.
- Papaya - If you swap out the papaya, you will take this smoothie into an entirely different direction, and it definitely won't be a papaya smoothie anymore. However, if you truly hate papaya, swap with mango.
- Avocado - If you don't mind changing the flavor, add a tablespoon of sunflower seed butter to replace the healthy fats in the avocado.
🍴 Variations
Here are a few variations for my papaya smoothie recipe.
- Collagen Power - Swap out the vanilla protein powder with your favorite collagen powder. I like Radiant Beauty Multi-Collagen Peptides by Eat Your Nutrition.
❄️ Storage
This recipe is for one serving. If you choose to double or make a big batch of this recipe, store in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
