The inspiration for this recipe is my dad’s love for chicken burgers. I experimented to create the best burger recipe. This one does not disappoint in the flavor department. It's similar to my tomato chicken slider recipe but with a Mexican flavored twist.

To make this healthy chicken burger recipe, you will simply need to gather a few key ingredients that create a tasty Mexican flavored dish.
- Ground Chicken - I used lean ground chicken breast for this chicken burger patties recipe, but you can swap with ground beef if you want to make a regular burger recipe, but with Mexican flavors.
- Black Beans - Adds additional fiber for great gut health. If you only have pinto beans, that works well too.
- Spices - I used sea salt, smoked paprika, onion powder, and cumin. You can swap smoked paprika for regular paprika.
- Egg - You need a binder for this burger recipe, eggs are perfect. However, you can swap it with a flax egg if you don't have any eggs on hand.
- Lime - I used the juice and zest to kick up that citrus flavor that balances the seasonings.
- Cilantro - Fresh cilantro is best, but you can use coriander spice.
- Extra Virgin Olive Oil - I typically use a lot of olive oil in my recipes, because the flavor is neutral in taste.

However, look for ground breast meat or packages that say 90% lean ground chicken or turkey, because typically packaged poultry is usually made from dark meat, and skin is added in.
Generally, the thighs and legs (dark meat) tend to be more flavorful, but higher in fat. This is why I try to look for ground breast meat instead. This chicken burger recipe is the perfect use of ground chicken breast.

🇲🇽 Since this is a Mexican chicken burger patty, I chose cumin and smoked paprika to bring that Mexican flavor profile forward.
🍗 Firstly, in a large bowl, combine the ground chicken, garlic, cumin, onion powder, paprika, cilantro, lime juice, egg, and salsa. Combine the mixture thoroughly.
🫘 Next, fold in 2 tablespoons of black beans. Form into 5 to 6 burger patties.
🫒 Then heat the 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a grill pan. Grill the chicken patties for 6-7 minutes on each side until cooked through.
🍔 Finally, serve the chicken burgers on hamburger buns. If you want to ditch the bun, you can serve on lettuce leaves or on top of sweet potato toast. Top with any of your toppings of choice.

- 1 pound chicken, ground

- ยฝ teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 2 tablespoons cilantro, fresh (Chopped)

- 2 cloves garlic, fresh (Finely chopped)
- ยผ cup salsa
- 2 tablespoons black beans
- 1 eggs
Optional Toppings:
