This adaptogenic healthy matcha rice krispies treat recipe is a dessert you simply must try with luscious dark chocolate on top. I love to make this homemade gluten-free rice krispies dessert recipe for St. Patrick's Day or Easter.
This was inspired by my gut healthy matcha coconut bliss balls recipe, and pairs well with my homemade oat milk recipe. You might also enjoy my chocolate covered matcha almond recipe.

🥣 Healthy Chocolate Rice Krispies Treats Squares Ingredients
To make the healthy, gluten-free rice krispies treats, you will simply need to gather a few key ingredients that create a festive fun green dessert recipe.
- Matcha Powder - Make sure you get a good quality matcha powder. It makes all the difference. Use ceremonial grade matcha powder for the best flavor. I love the brand is by Pique. You can find their real ceremonial grade matcha green tea powder here.
- Chocolate Chips - I love the brand Enjoylife for my mini dairy-free chocolate chips.
- Rice Krispies - I used One Degree organic sprouted brown rice crisps cereal. Sprouted whole grain brown rice enhances the nutrition of these gluten-free rice krispies treats.
- Marshmallows - I like to use Dandies vegan marshmallows.
- Coconut oil - Any brand of high quality coconut oil will work well. No need to use refined coconut oil. The flavor of the unrefined coconut oil adds to the flavor.

🍵 Does Matcha and Chocolate Go Together?
Matcha and chocolate are a popular flavor combination. If you have never tried matcha green tea powder, it has a bit of an earthy flavor. This earthy flavor profile of matcha paired with a dark chocolate makes this dessert recipe stand out as a flavor bomb.
🍵 Matcha Health Benefits
The matcha green tea contains caffeine, but the caffeine effect will differ from your average cup of joe. That is from the amino acid, L-theanine, which has a much more relaxing energizing effect. The caffeine effect is not the same as the jittery effect often experienced with drinking coffee.
The L-theanine helps the body develop a relaxed state by the production of dopamine and serotonin. Not only is this fantastic for better focus, memory, and can even help with concentration. The catechin EGCG has been shown to boost metabolism and help aid in weight loss.
Matcha green tea is also rich in antioxidants. In fact, matcha has more antioxidant levels due to the leaves being shielded from direct sunlight.
🩺 Maca Health Benefits
Maca is wonderful for maintaining healthy hormonal function, support your energy and endurance levels, and even boost your mood. It has even been used to help enhance sex drive and fertility issues because it helps balance hormones.
😌 Ashwagandha Health Benefits
Ashwagandha helps the body adapt to stress. I love Ashwagandha because this is my natural remedy for when life can become stressful. For example, studies have also shown that by adding Ashwagandha into the diet, your thyroid can benefit from the natural balance this extract brings to the body (1).
One study found that a high concentration of ashwagandha root extracts safely improved a person's resistance to stress (2). Adaptogens work by naturally supporting the endocrine system within the body. The endocrine system is responsible for regulating your hormone levels.
The impressive thing about adaptogens is how easily they help the body "adapt" and regulate the body back into homeostasis. The body will adjust the hormone levels and can even help fight inflammation. It's a win-win, in my opinion.
❓ Why Use Sprouted Grains?
When brown rice is sprouted, it decreases the harsh outer shell that cause digestion disturbances in some individuals. When the outer grain is sprouted it aids digestion and we are better adapted to absorb the nutrients from the grain.
